“ We enjoy going to Shanar Curry House in Petaling Jaya for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even supper. The friendly boss and staff always greet us with a warm ‘Vanakkam’ and they are attentive to their customers. This simple restaurant serves economical Indian food and you can even get a delicious vegan meal here. Our favourites are Special Rawa Dosa with Mint Chutney & Curries, Masala Dosa, Chapati, Roti Canai, Fried Bihun, Mamak Mee Goreng, Roti ‘Empat Segi’ Telur, Apam, Chicken Varuval, Vegetarian Mutton Curry and Rice with Dishes (Indian Chap Fan). Their Teh Tarik and Hot Ginger Milk Tea is delightfully creamy and slightly spicy sweet… so satisfying! Everything tasted delicious and we look forward to try some other Indian dishes on our next visit. ”
“ Lovely corner lot with an extension by the side. A corner with recycled books for sale and another corner selling mangoes and flowers. It was not crowded on a Sunday. We came just before noon and thosai was still available. Ordered different type of thosai but paper thosai was the best. Super thin and crispy on 2/3 of the piece served. The bottom part was the normal texture. All the curries and sauces were thick and delicious, especially the fish curry. Mint sauce was mild for me. The coconut chutneys were my favourites. The crab and mutton curries were too salty for me. Mutton was yummy and not gamey. Varuvel chicken was spicy and tender but also salty for me. The fried anchovies side dish was salty too. First time trying crab rasam and it was not as sour as I expected. Apam with brown sugar was okay...I prefer a moist center, rather than dipping into coconut milk. Service was great. Bill came not itemised - RM80++ for 5 pax. Pricey breakfast but we had a few side dishes. Don't mind coming back for more. ”
“ Their roti canai isn't oily! It was crispy served with nice curry. The fried meehuon served during breakfast was satisfying:))) the appam will be on the crispier side served with coconut milk. Decent chilly place for a breakfast/lunch. I also tried their paper thosai - you imagine doss but feels and tasted like a saltier version of a roti tissue. Very crispy, visually looks much bigger than a normal thosai. I didn't really enjoy their rice with dishes. Had once for dinner and the sambal little prawn were not just pricey. It was spicy but not fragrant. The rice also not the nice Indian rice that goes really well with sauce. I much prefer their morning lunch menu. ”
“ June 2024 For a nice quiet economical Indian vegetarian breakfast, it's hard to find a better place than Shanar. But it can get crowded at lunch and on weekends. The roti and tosai here are good - made to order, crispy and tender at the same time. The accompanying chutneys are fresh-made and full-flavoured. The uppuma is a particular revelation, excellent - light, soft ... so good with some dhall. Mostly regulars here, Shanar's meat dishes are not that strong. But for vegetarian, it's very much worth a visit. That said, the mutton curry is good. The mee goreng is excellent!!! All in all, it's better here than the other establishment just down the same row ”
“ We found this restaurant while looking for another and had some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had, we haven’t gone to the old one since! The food here is delicious and so authentic! The drinks are so refreshing and the staff are always very helpful and welcoming! We always enjoy our food and have come back quite a few times. We have taken meals back for my grandparents too who definitely approve! :) ”
